GWO standards updated: BST V20 and BTT V11 are current. The six-month transition ended on 10 September 2026. BTT now includes hazardous-energy safety and separate mechanical and electrical installation modules. A standards transition does not itself mean an existing worker certificate has expired. Possible funding routes
Check eligibility before committing to training.
Funding decisions belong to the official scheme. Eligibility may depend on where you live, employment status, previous qualifications, income, service history, the approved provider and the exact qualification.
Looking for a fully funded place? Confirm that the approved course and assessment fees are covered and ask separately about medicals, travel and accommodation. For employer-funded training, get the payment arrangement agreed in writing before enrolling. Enhanced Learning Credits are normally part-funded and require a personal contribution.

Free Courses for Jobs—England
Eligible adults in England may access selected level 2 construction, engineering or manufacturing qualifications and selected level 3 courses without course fees. National rules, local thresholds and available qualifications can change.
Skills Bootcamps—England
Locally commissioned Skills Bootcamps can support adults into priority occupations. Availability and entry criteria vary by area and provider, and an advertised programme may not include offshore survival or role-specific certification.
Liverpool City Region Skills Bootcamps
The Combined Authority lists local Skills Bootcamps, including green skills and engineering and manufacturing. Check the current provider, residency and entry criteria, the qualification included and the next intake. A green-skills listing does not itself confirm funded GWO or BOSIET places.
Armed Forces resettlement
Eligible service leavers may use CTP support, Individual Resettlement Training Costs or Enhanced Learning Credits. Enhanced Learning Credits normally require an approved provider, an eligible level of qualification and a personal contribution.
Scotland—Oil and Gas Transition Training Fund
The 2026/27 fund is open for applications from eligible Scottish residents working—or recently working—in oil and gas and its supply chains. It supports suitable training for one specific target career, with the official fund assessing the application and contribution before training is booked.
Wales and Northern Ireland
Skills support is devolved. Use the official careers service for your home nation and confirm that both the learner and course are eligible. Programmes can open, close or change by funding year.
Wind or oil and gas?
GWO and BOSIET serve different training routes.
The employer's role and asset determine the accepted training. Safety tickets support readiness alongside your trade or professional competence; they do not replace it.
GWO training for wind work
Check which GWO safety modules and technical learning the job requires, together with existing trade qualifications and any project-specific training. A technician cross-skill route can have different entry requirements from an introductory course.

BOSIET and oil-and-gas training
Check the required OPITO survival course or refresher, MIST where specified, medical-fitness evidence and your occupational qualifications against the assignment. Ask the funder to confirm the exact course is eligible before making a booking.

Starting with a course can leave a worker holding evidence that is not required or not accepted by the target employer. Use this order before paying or making a funding claim.

Choose the occupation
Decide whether the target is wind technician, rigger, medic, crane operator, deck crew or another productive role.

Check the evidence
Compare your trade competence and existing certificates with recent employer specifications—not social-media course lists.

Confirm before enrolment
Verify provider approval, awarding body, dates, total cost, personal contribution, funding authorisation and refund terms.
Military transition
Military routes into wind, oil and gas.
Compare 3t Military to Wind, 3t’s oil-and-gas BOOST programme and OEG’s Liverpool wind route. Admission to training and ELCAS or CTP funding are separate decisions. Check the exact approved programme and your service entitlement before paying.
Enhanced Learning Credits
ELC pays up to 80% of an eligible fee, capped at £1,000 lower tier or £2,000 higher tier. You pay the balance. Eligible aggregation uses three lower-tier claims; it is not an annual £3,000 allowance.
Confirm eligibility first
Four years of service does not automatically qualify for ELC. Lower tier normally needs six years, with an older four-year exception. Confirm the discharge window, approved Level 3 course, contribution and CAN with your adviser.

Offshore training and funding questions
These answers help workers ask the right questions. Final eligibility and acceptance always belong to the official scheme, training provider and employer.
Is fully funded GWO or BOSIET training available to everyone?
No. Availability depends on the exact course, approved provider, current intake and your eligibility. Ask the official scheme or employer to confirm what is covered before enrolling. This guidance does not confirm a funded place or a job offer.
Can I find funded offshore training in Liverpool?
Use Liverpool City Region's official Skills Bootcamps information and current provider listings to check local routes. Confirm residency, experience, course content, dates and funding with the provider. A green-skills or engineering programme is not automatically a funded GWO or BOSIET course.
Are Enhanced Learning Credits fully funded?
Not normally. ELC support covers an eligible proportion of approved fees up to the applicable claim limit, with a personal contribution. Treat it separately from a fully funded or employer-funded offer and confirm your entitlement through the official ELCAS process.
Does Offshore Personnel sell training courses?
No. Offshore Personnel provides role guidance and links to approved training centres or official routes. Training decisions and payments are made with the provider.
Can funding pay for BOSIET or GWO training?
Possibly, but not automatically. The course, provider, learner and funding scheme must all be eligible, and some schemes fund qualifications rather than short safety certificates.
What do Enhanced Learning Credits contribute?
Current official guidance describes lower-tier support up to £1,000 or higher-tier support up to £2,000 for an eligible claim, normally covering 80% of eligible fees. Service history, provider and qualification rules apply.
How does training support work readiness?
Training can provide part of the evidence needed for a role. Employers also assess occupational competence, experience, medical fitness, right to work, availability and the requirements of the actual assignment.
Can a client fund training after recruitment?
An employer may choose to fund role-specific training or use an apprenticeship route. Confirm the employer's eligibility decision, approved course and payment arrangement in writing before booking.
