3t publishes safety, skills and technical training across oil and gas, wind, marine, construction and other safety-critical industries. Its course catalogue covers standards and disciplines including OPITO, GWO, IRATA, STCW, IWCF, lifting, drilling and well control, NDT and welding, mechanical and electrical work, survival and emergency response.
The correct route depends on the occupation and employer specification. The requirements and funding comparison below distinguishes 3t's published Level 3 military programmes from its commercial new-starter package. Obtain the exact approved qualification, admission checklist and full quote directly from 3t; course completion is not a job offer or trade-competence assessment.
Wind and renewables
Published GWO routes include safety, sea survival, working at height, first aid and Basic Technical Training. Technical foundations do not replace trade competence.
Trades and technical work
The catalogue includes lifting, crane, welding and NDT, coatings, rope access, mechanical, electrical, CompEx, confined-space and other role-specific categories.
Marine and emergency response
3t publishes STCW, marine, survival, medical, first-aid, helideck, firefighting and emergency-response routes at relevant centres. Availability varies by course and location.

3t Military to Wind
Four-week ITC Level 3 Diploma in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry, with GWO safety, technical, first-aid and rescue learning.
Entry requirements
- For military personnel moving into wind. Ask 3t to assess your background and confirm programme admission separately from ELC entitlement.
- Confirm physical and medical requirements, identification, WINDA registration and the order of safety and rescue modules before attending.
Funding route
Published as ELCAS-approved. Your service eligibility, approved provider/course record and Claim Authorisation Note must also be confirmed.
Confirm before paying
Request the exact GWO modules and versions, qualification code, ELCAS provider ID, total fee including VAT, medical costs, venue and accommodation costs. Current cohort admission criteria and fees need a written quote.

Four-week ITC Level 3 Certificate in Basic Offshore Operations Safety Training. Published categories cover survival, lifting, helideck operations, emergency response, safety passport and medicals.

- Ask 3t for the current programme admission criteria and any module-specific prior certificates. The public programme page does not give a complete entry checklist.
- For 3t Combined BOSIET, the provider lists valid OEUK and Fit to Train certificates and centre medical self-screening. Confirm how these are arranged within BOOST.
Funding route
Published as an ELCAS-approved Level 3 programme. Military service alone does not establish eligibility or full payment.

Obtain the exact OPITO product names/codes, any BOSIET/MIST and medical inclusions, assessment requirements, venue, quote and ELCAS course/provider record. Do not infer certificates from broad category names.

Combined BOSIET, MIST and Banksman Slinger Initial, with published medical, Fit to Train, shoulder-measurement and escape-chute additions. Reconfirm the booking contents.
Entry requirements
- Combined BOSIET requires valid OEUK and Fit to Train certificates. Arrange included medical appointments before practical training as directed by 3t.
- Banksman Slinger Initial requires photographic ID, suitable PPE/work boots and centre fitness self-screening. Ask 3t about any additional current admission requirements.
- Initial lifting training is a starting stage. Confirm supervised workplace experience and competence-assessment progression with the employer.
Funding route
A commercial new-starter package. ELCAS funding for this exact package is not confirmed; do not confuse it with the separate Level 3 BOOST programme.
Confirm before paying
Check the total quote, medical scheduling, certificate variants and employer requirements. Do not buy Norwegian or other additional training unless the target work requires it.

Check the person, the programme and the payment.
3t delivers the training. MOD education staff or your Single Service Representative approve the claim; ELCAS administers it. Offshore Personnel provides guidance and does not approve funding or take course payments.
- Lower tier: six years of qualifying service, or four years completed before 1 April 2017. Higher tier: eight years. Attributable medical-discharge exceptions must be checked with the MOD adviser.
- For leavers discharged on or after 1 April 2016, the normal window is five years after discharge. Specified earlier-discharge and medical-award cases have a ten-year window. The course must start within entitlement.
- An approved provider and eligible Level 3 or higher qualification are required. An approved provider's entire catalogue is not automatically eligible.
- Normally up to three claims, one per financial year. Eligible members may aggregate lower-tier claims; this uses the three claims rather than creating an annual £3,000 allowance.
Your contribution can exceed 20%.
ELC support is the lower of 80% of the eligible fee and your approved claim limit. You pay the balance and any excluded costs. These are illustrative figures, not provider quotes.

Check your entitlement
Serving personnel: speak to education/resettlement staff. Veterans: contact your Single Service Representative. Confirm service dates, remaining claims and expiry. Army veterans can use [email protected].
Get the provider's written offer
Ask 3t or OEG for the exact approved provider ID, qualification/course code, module list, admission requirements, dates, venue and full VAT-inclusive fee. Establish the cost of excluded items.
Submit your ELC claim
Use the ELCAS member service and the evidence requested by your adviser. Current service-leaver guidance requires at least 15 working days before the course/registration date; allow extra time for checks and provider deadlines.
Receive authority, then book
Obtain the Claim Authorisation Note (CAN), give it to the named provider and pay the required personal contribution. The CAN must match the programme and provider. Retrospective claims are not permitted.
CTP support is a separate entitlement: four to six years of service normally leads to the Employment Support Programme, within the standard resettlement window. It does not automatically pay for any chosen course. Confirm IRTC, CTP training and ELC options with your adviser.

Which Offshore Personnel roles can use 3t training?
Potentially most role families, because 3t publishes oil-and-gas, wind, marine, lifting, technical, welding, rope-access, survival and emergency-response categories. The exact course still has to match the actual work.
Does safety training prove trade competence?
No. Safety and introductory technical courses do not replace a trade qualification, logged experience, competence assessment or employer authorisation where those are required.
